A dental surgeon in Monticello has died after he was shot in the head during a practice shooting, authorities said Thursday.
Dr. Robert Boulet, 53, was shot and killed in the parking lot of a dentistry practice in the 2200 block of Main Street around 1:45 a.m.
Tuesday, said Col. Christopher DeLeon, the city’s medical examiner.
The shooting happened outside the practice, which is owned by the dentistry and allied health firm Dentist-Dentist of North Monticella.
The two offices have a total of eight employees, according to a release from the county coroner’s office.
The victim’s identity was not immediately released.
The victim, who had no prior criminal history, was transported to St. Joseph Medical Center in critical condition and pronounced dead at around 4 a.ms.
A preliminary investigation indicated that Boulet had not been at the office before the shooting, DeLeon said.
The coroner’s investigation into the shooting is ongoing, De Leon said.
